In December and January, you were asked to consider your support on a resolution from ONEIG on the Right to Safe Water and Sanitation. This resolution brought together the work of the Council of Canadians, the David Suzuki Foundation, the United Nations and more to emphasize the need for RNAO's support for building healthy, equitable, and sustainable water regulations and systems.

Please join us on Thursday March 12, from 530pm to 730pm for our open executive meeting where we will discuss recent ONEIG activities, including the ONEIG member survey results, and plan for future initiatives. We would love to have you, ONEIG members, join us for this meeting.
It is a perfect opportunity for you to provide input into our work, future directions and to learn about opportunities to get more involved.

Environmental Defence is organizing a Climate Day of Action on Friday April 17th. It will be geared towards local Ontario MPPs, and the organization will be working with local groups to set up actions in their communities across Ontario. This will be an opportunity to call for stronger climate action during the lead up to Earth Week, building on the momentum of climate strikes and other events.

It has been a busy fall for ONEIG in our advocacy work leading up the federal election and more recently in advocating for the removal of environmental legislation from omnibus Bill 132 in the Ontario parliament and working towards an Action Alert on this topic.
Dear ONEIG members,
Introduced on October 28th, the omnibus Bill 132, Better for People, Smarter for Business Act, 2019, which is now sent to committee, is flying through the Ontario legislature. Bill 132 alters over 12 environmental laws in a massive deregulation scheme, the implications of which are not clear. The public, in turn, has now less than 30 days to comment.

In the last week, we’ve witnessed the call for urgent climate action from thousands of Canadians taking part in massive demonstrations in many major cities. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Please disregard the previous alert that went out around 2:30 yesterday. That went out in error. The message was originally sent out March 17, asking members to respond to Bill 66.
Bill 66 received royal assent on April 3. Schedule 10 would have opened up the Greenbelt and was withdrawn due to vigorous response from the public, including members of RNAO. Thank you for your support.
Access to safe water and sanitation for all is essential to life and a matter of environmental and social justice. Unfortunately, there are over 100 drinking water advisories in First Nations across Canada and no national strategy to address urgent water issues.
The COVID-19 pandemic compounds harms of historically marginalized communities. Our collective recovery must build stronger, healthier communities, including healthy environmental public policy that challenges structural inequities, including environmental racism.
We need our governments to take immediate, future-minded action now to ensure the foundational conditions for human health and wellbeing are sustained for generations to come.
