Hi ONEIG members!
After an amazing webinar with Rachel Arsenault last week, we turn our attention to the lessons and legacy of the contamination of Walkerton, Ontario's water supply with E. Coli in May 2000. The Walkerton's water contamination claimed 7 lives and sickened about half of the town's residents--some of whom never recovered their health.

Hello members,
This is a late summer hello and updates as we move into a busy fall season.
Hi ONEIG Members,
Help us speak out now against Omnibus Bill 197 that the Ontario government is trying to quickly and quietly pass without legislative or public hearings.
The process is curtailed to the extent that the consequences of this legislation can’t be discussed and debated.
Buried within this Omnibus Bill are changes to the Environmental Assessment Act which will bar experts from assessing the environmental impacts of many public infrastructure projects, and keep communities in the dark about what’s happening in their own backyards.
Dear ONEIG member,
Do you have a passion for environmental health issues? Are you interested in speaking out for the environment? We are looking for members to join the Ontario Nurses for the Environment Interest Group (ONEIG) executive.
The ONEIG is seeking nominees for the following positions:
Hi ONEIG members,
Thank you to those who were able to attend the quarterly meeting last Wednesday; it was wonderful to see so many of you and to share in the excitement of the momentum for environmental action, particularly post AGM. For those who missed the meeting, the draft minutes are attached to this email.
We had the opportunity to debrief from the AGM. Please check out ONEIG's members' voices submission.
Hi ONEIG members,
We are THRILLED to share that ONEIG's Resolution 2: Access to Safe Water and Sanitation was carried at the 2020 RNAO AGM by an overwhelming majority!
Thank you to everyone who worked to make this happen with particular kudos to ONEIG's AMAZING Communications ENO Josalyn Radcliffe who worked tirelessly to prepare for the resolution process and spoke so eloquently to the resolution on Friday evening:
Hi everyone,
It is a busy season as we prepare for our resolution submission and the AGM this week.
We will be having our quarterly interest group meeting the following week, Wednesday June 17th at 7pm.
The meeting will be an opportunity to connect post AGM, debrief, review our activities over the last few months and to plan for the time ahead. Curious about learning more about ONEIG, possibly getting more involved? Join us!
Kind regards,
Hello ONEIG members!
Don't miss your chance to watch the documentary The Story of Plastic!
ONEIG has a special community screening to this new documentary until June 8th. You can access the link here.
Access to safe water and sanitation for all is essential to life and a matter of environmental and social justice. Unfortunately, there are over 100 drinking water advisories in First Nations across Canada and no national strategy to address urgent water issues.
The COVID-19 pandemic compounds harms of historically marginalized communities. Our collective recovery must build stronger, healthier communities, including healthy environmental public policy that challenges structural inequities, including environmental racism.
We need our governments to take immediate, future-minded action now to ensure the foundational conditions for human health and wellbeing are sustained for generations to come.
