Here are some interesting facts! (Original author: EARTHDAY.ORG):
- Roughly 9 billion tons of plastic has been produced since 1950 — the weight of over a billion elephants or 50 million blue whales.
- Only 9% of this plastic has been recycled, 12% has been burned and 79% has ended up in our environment.
- The equivalent of a truckload of plastic enters the oceans every minute.
- Up to 9 in 10 seabirds, 1 in 3 sea turtles and more than half of whale and dolphin populations have ingested plastic. Studies reveal that species of crustaceans at the deepest depths of the ocean have ingested plastic.
- Microplastics are in our food, water, air and even our bodies. We each consume the weight of a credit card worth of plastic on average per week.

Let's make our buses electric by 2030!

"Toronto and Brampton are starting to put electric buses on city streets — and that’s something to celebrate!
Running e-buses doesn’t create greenhouse gas emissions so these vehicles are a crucial climate solution. Most of them are made in Canada so they create good local jobs. And because e-buses are cheaper than diesel buses to operate, they save us money.
Toronto has 60 e-buses (in a fleet of about 2,000 vehicles) and Brampton has just eight buses (in a fleet of about 450). The mayors need to scale up their e-bus plans enormously.
In fact, they need to make all their buses electric.
Why 2030? That’s the year by which we need to cut greenhouse gas emissions dramatically — about 60 per cent -- to address the climate emergency.
