Hi there Palliative Care Nursing Interest Group members,

On May 19 from 12–1 p.m. ET, we invite you to join us for our next Palliative Care Knowledge Compass session. We will be welcoming Kendra Lee Dupuis and Amy Burt from the RNAO BPG development team, who want to hear your thoughts on the upcoming revisions of the RNAO BPGs: A Palliative Approach to Care in the Last 12 Months of Life and End-of-Life Care During the Last Days and Hours.

These are some of the questions they would like to get your thoughts on:

  • Could you share any guidelines or frameworks you may have used when managing and/or assessing clients receiving palliative care or at end-of-life?
  • What aspects of the guideline or framework do you find the most valuable? Are there areas for improvement?
  • What aspects of the current RNAO guidelines do you find the most valuable? Are there areas for improvement?
  • What population(s) do you think this guideline should focus on? As an example, this could be an age group or a population type.

Do you think there are specific equity-deserving populations that should be focused on for this guideline? (i.e. underhoused, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQI+, immigrants, incarcerated, etc.)

How can the updated guideline ensure that palliative and end-of-life care assessment, management and treatment strategies are inclusive and address disparities?

Do you think that those undergoing MAiD should be focused on for this guideline?

What are some common challenges that you face when it comes to palliative and end-of-life assessment, management, and/or treatment approaches in practice?

From your experience, what evidence-based practices or interventions have been effective [or ineffective] in delivering palliative and end-of-life care?

If this BPG were to capture three main recommendation/topic areas, what would they be?
