Hi Palliative Care Nurses Interest Group Members, We hope your summer is finding you safe and some ability to have some downtime amid these difficult and trying times. As part of our ongoing committment to attend to supporting your selfcare we would like to offer our membership access to this wonderful series being sponsered by HPCO:

Having Difficult Conversations: Communication Tips & Strategies in the context of COVID-19

Description

Session One: Introduction to Healthcare Consent, Advance Care Planning and Goals of Care Conversation

This session will describe an approach to Advance Care Planning and Goals of Care Conversations. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. Participants will gain awareness of Person-Centered Decision-Making (PCDM) components, be able to describe how values shape decision-making, and review resources available on having person centered conversations in the context of COVID-19.

Session Two: Embrace the Cage - Connecting and having meaningful interactions with patients while wearing Personal Protective Equipment

In this webinar we will address how the experience of wearing PPE has impacted care delivery and communication, as well as how embracing the “cage” of PPE can improve the overall experience for both patient and professional.

Session Three: Engaging community on conversations around dying and death

Our discussion hopes to address unique ways to engage with community members in conversations around dying and death in both informal and formalized methods. The hope is to inspire discussions around innovative ways to meet people where they are.

Session Four: Exploring language and communication techniques for having difficult or stressful conversations with patients and families; common language mishaps that make patients feel uncomfortable

An interactive session on difficult conversations around end of life discussion, particularly in the COVID Pandemic. We will explore strategies to employ when initiating a serious conversation, common language pitfalls we encounter and excellent questions that help patients to open up to us and have those important discussions that allow us to connect and care for them in meaningful ways.

Registration link is intended for individual participation and not group participation. There is a one-time fee of $150 to attend all four sessions.
