Dear ONEIG members,

We hope the summer season finds you in good health and with time to contemplate the beauty of this planet that sustains us. While news accounts of the toll of climate change and losses of biodiversity are sobering calls to action, it is important to remain inspired and hopeful. The words of conservationist Rachel Carson come to mind, “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.” 

Good afternoon ONEIG Members,

we hope you are enjoying the warm summer weather unlike many part of Europe we have been lucky this year with a cooler summer.

We are looking for members to video on the Make It Better Campaign focused on climate change and health campaign being promoted by the Ontario Public Health Association and supported by RNAO.

We want to video nurses like you about what you are seeing in your practice and the connection to climate change. It could be more heat stress, heat stroke, more allergies, lyme disease, west nile disease etc.

Join Gideon Forman, Climate Change Policy Analyst, from the David Suzuki Foundation and ONEIG President, Kerrie Pickering as they review the impacts of climate change, how it affects health, why towns and cities globally are declaring states of emergency, what nurses can do immediately to protect their clients and stop climate change.

Good morning ONEIG members,

The Vulnerable Road Users Coalition have extended an invitation to attend a meeting this Friday to organize in support of Bill 62, the Protecting Vulnerable Road Users Act. 

The meeting is Friday, May 3, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Centre for Social Innovation, 192 Spadina Ave, Meeting Room F. 

At this meeting the details of Bill 62 and strategies to engage and mobilize citizens in support of the Protecting Vulnerable Road Users Act will be discussed. 

Well can you believe it is coming to the end of March and that means 'Earth Hour' this Saturday 8.30pm tp 9.30pm.

RNAO sent you an Action Alert to Save the greenbelt please respond to this you only have to fill out the form.

RNAO will be sending in a submission on Monday to stop Bill 66, you can read it more at

it has been a hot summer but ONEIG continues to be active. In our latest newsletter attached you can see Susan Munro our Policy and Political Action Officer speaking at the Pickering Nuclear Plant licensing hearing, get a summary of the RNAO AGM and learn some easy ways to reduce tour use of single use plastics.
