Happy Earth Day Ontario Nurses for the Environment!
Today is Earth Day and this year’s theme is plastics. To mark this, Canada is hosting the UN’s INC-4 conference in Ottawa this week to deal with global plastics pollution. One of our partners, CAPE, has a letter writing campaign to Environment Minister Steven Guilbault asking for a global plastics pollution treaty. You can sign the form letter here.

Do you want to get more involved? Our interest group elections are coming up. Some roles are bigger commitments while others are less. If we get multiple people for one role, then it will go to a vote, but we will make sure to find an alternative role for you so you can be included!
Roles coming open: Co-chair, Finance, Social Media, Webmaster, Policy and Political ENO, Workplace Liaison, Membership ENO, Student Liaison
Quarterly Meeting - Réunion trimestrielle
Interest Group Business at the beginning followed by panel discussion - Affaires des groupes d’intérêt au début, suivies d’une table ronde.
Discussion: Looking into the future by learning from the past, reducing waste in nursing
Meet virtually with nursing educators and those interested in nursing education from across Canada. Discuss projects to implement planetary health into nursing curriculum or practical projects like greening the lab. If you are already undertaking such a project, please share it with the others. If you are not sure where to start, this is a good place to find inspiration.
The hope is that this group will have recurrent meetings every two months or at least once a semester, and it will become a community of practice where like-minded nurses can connect.

ONEIG has been busy working on our sustainable procurement campaign to help green Canada's health-care supply chain, advocating for environmental health, and planning for the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai later this year!
Hello ONEIG members,
Back in the spring, the executive team sent a survey to members requesting suggestions for names for our interest group. Several options were proposed including keeping ONEIG as well as inserting a new name.
The idea was to have a name that includes both official languages, facilitates external communications, maintains the legacy of the group, while also keeping it simple. The result of that survey was:

We can only build a movement together. Today's climate crisis magnifies the threats of pollution, land degradation, food insecurity, inequities, and more. This AGM is dedicated to finding strategies for action and we need you to be a part of the conversation!
Join us and hear from internationally respected and renowned Dr. Barbara Sattler, environmental advocate, author, educator, researcher and educator on her work building knowledge, capacity, and power for action!

Plus:
Access to safe water and sanitation for all is essential to life and a matter of environmental and social justice. Unfortunately, there are over 100 drinking water advisories in First Nations across Canada and no national strategy to address urgent water issues.
The COVID-19 pandemic compounds harms of historically marginalized communities. Our collective recovery must build stronger, healthier communities, including healthy environmental public policy that challenges structural inequities, including environmental racism.
We need our governments to take immediate, future-minded action now to ensure the foundational conditions for human health and wellbeing are sustained for generations to come.
