One Member One Vote - Change name from ONEIG to ONE-IIOE

Posted on Oct. 24, 2023, 7:58 p.m.

Hello ONEIG members,

Back in the spring, the executive team sent a survey to members requesting suggestions for names for our interest group. Several options were proposed including keeping ONEIG as well as inserting a new name.

The idea was to have a name that includes both official languages, facilitates external communications, maintains the legacy of the group, while also keeping it simple. The result of that survey was:

Name: Ontario Nurses for the Environment - Infirmiers/Infirmières de l'Ontario pour l'Environnement

Acronym: ONE-IIOE

Unofficial acronym when speaking in English: ONE

Voting will close on November 7th at 12:00 p.m.

At the 2023 ONEIG AGM, the name change was unanimously approved. Two final steps remain: (1) this One member one vote email where each member has an opportunity to vote, and (2) RNAO Board of Directors approval, which can take place as early as the late November meeting.

As well, please be sure to attend our upcoming wellness event on November 22nd - plant-based meal prep for busy nurses while talking about climate grief. Follow along as Rob attends COP28 representing RNAO. Plus, post pictures exposing healthcare system waste in your settings using the hashtag #ShowUsYourBins plus tagging @oneigrnao and @RNAO to help our healthcare waste reduction campaign. Please maintain patient and institutional privacy with photos - just the garbage bins!

Working as a team, us nurses are having an impact and making positive changes!

Sincerely,

Ontario Nurses for the Environment IG Executive Team
