Part 1: The Good Enough Parent: Psychodynamics of the perinatal period
Thursday, September 27, 2018 | 12  – 1 p.m. EST
Presented by: Sharon Szmuilowicz, MD, FRCPC

This event will discuss the natural transitions that occur for a parent from pre-conception to parenthood that can create or contribute to mental health issues. The presentation will also explore the psychodynamic conflicts at play in postpartum depression and anxiety and aiming for ‘good enough’ parenting and how clinicians can provide support.

Part 2: Insights from women and men who have experienced late pregnancy loss
Thursday, October 25, 2018 | 12 – 1 p.m. EST
Presented by: Benjamin Rosen, MD, FRCPC, MSc & Melissa Goldband, MSW RSW

This event includes a presentation of a heterosexual couple’s grief through a case study and will review support options through the Father’s Mental Health Program, Perinatal Mental Health Program and Late Loss Support Group. The presentation will also identify the main themes as discussed by women and men who experience late pregnancy loss.

Part 3: Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for perinatal depression
Thursday, November 22, 2018 | 12 – 1 p.m. EST
Presented by: Paula Ravitz, MD, FRCPC

This event will discuss the rationale, goals, and evidentiary base IPT for women with perinatal depression treatment, and the IPT therapeutic guidelines for women with depression needed to adjust to social role transitions and manage emergent role disputes in the context of the post-partum period. The presentation will also review the relational theories of attachment and mentalizing for therapeutically responding according to individual client differences.
