Virtual simulation training has been shown to improve nurses' knowledge, practice behaviours and confidence, with comparable outcomes to traditional training modalities. Virtual simulation also supports the development of non-technical skills such as communication, teamwork and decision-making – skills that are important when assessing suicide risk.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, an in-person interprofessional suicide risk assessment (SRA) simulation-based education session was delivered in collaboration with clinical educators to address gaps in clinical interviewing skills, risk formulation and care planning. As a result of the SRA being an Accreditation Canada Required Organizational Practice, the curriculum design, scenario, debriefing model and training modality have been adapted for virtual delivery in line with pandemic-related shifts to virtual care.

1. Describe the effect of a virtual simulation training on nurses' confidence to conduct an SRA and create a care plan.
2. Report nurses' experience with virtual simulation-based education.
3. Discuss facilitators and barriers to virtual simulation-based education.
