Caring for Yourself When You Care for Others

Under normal circumstances, caring for others can be physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausting.  In light of the current health care environment, this has been augmented exponentially!  This evening will explore ways to maintain wellness, as we examine current challenges, including burnout and grief. Join us to share perspectives and practices, and be inspired and refreshed!

Speaker: Michelle O’Rourke RN MA
Michelle is a nurse, author and educator with a background in emergency nursing, hospice palliative care, and spirituality.  She retired as Program Manager for Oncology and Palliative Care for the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in 2017, after helping to design, build and open the 10-bed Chatham-Kent Hospice.  She is the author of two books on dying and palliative care, and her latest book is titled 'Healthy Caregiving:  Perspectives for Caring Professionals’.  Her passion is promoting the importance of caring for yourself when you care for others. 

Michelle is a sought-after speaker and a member of RNAO, including the Palliative Care and the Faith Community Nursing Interest Groups.   She was the recent recipient of the 2021 Leadership Award from the Canadian Palliative Care Nursing Association.
