The Black Nurses’ Leading Change Interest Group invites you to register for their next upcoming webinar scheduled to take place: December 7th, 6:30-8pm. Link to attend the event will be sent upon registration.

This presentation will include a brief summary of Hayan's completed thesis research including the background, research methodology, and findings/conclusions. Implications for nursing education, practice, and research related to racism in nursing education will be discussed. At the end of this session, participants can hope to: 

  • Gain knowledge on current research and interventions related to addressing racism and microaggressions present within nursing education
  • Discover innovative interventions such as virtual simulations and understand the importance of post-simulation debriefing for sensitive topics
  • Identify and explore issues and gaps within nursing research, practice, and education related to racism and microaggressions

Presenter:
Hayan Yusuf is a Registered Nurse at The Ottawa Hospital and a casual Simulation Laboratory Facilitator at the University of Ottawa School of Nursing. She has recently obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa and has successfully defended her thesis titled, "Exploring the perceived effectiveness of a racism and microaggression virtual simulation module and debriefing for undergraduate nursing students". Her current research interests include anti-racism supports and interventions and analyzing concepts of vulnerability of marginalized populations.
