BNLC - Update

Posted on Sept. 26, 2022, 4:46 p.m.

Dear members,

It gives us immense pleasure to write to you at the onset of this new current year. Last year, was a year of learning, growth, and new discoveries as our first (foundational) year. This year, we will solidify our foundation by continuing our journey to honour our mission to tackle anti-Black racism in the nursing profession and advocate for the professional advancement of Black nurses.

The Black Nurses Leading Change interest group (BNLC IG) is committed to achieve its objectives. They are grounded in advocacy, mentorship, liaison activities with the Board of Directors, fostering relationships and create safe space for Black nurses and nursing students to network.

To achieve this, please join us in welcoming our newly expanded executive (ENO) team members:

  • Dominic Stewart, Student liaison
  • Nicole Goodfellow, Social media ENO
  • Donna Lawrence, Policy, and Political Action ENO

Their complementary skills and fresh perspectives will contribute to what we have in store for you. Please refer to our BNLC IG webpage to see the list of the rest of the 2022-2023 executives/ENO

CALL TO ACTION:

We turn our attention to you, dear members, and invite you to complete a brief 5-10 min survey to help us bring heightened value to our IG and guide the work of the executive. You can access our survey https://myrnao.ca/blnc_survey_sept22

Our larger nursing family is working through challenging times, in all settings and specialties. Still, we know we will come out of this unprecedented era with grit, resiliency, ingenuity, and innovation, overtime, by working towards common goals province-wide for the people who receive our care and services, and our professional and personal families. In the meantime, we encourage you to welcome any type of supportive and/or therapeutic help you can access to stay afloat and protect your physical and/or mental wellbeing. We are never too well or unwell enough to benefit from any degree of support regardless of the setting we work in. To nursing students and future graduates, best of luck in your studies, projects, and clinical placements. We will remain patient and will welcome you on the frontline as well as internationally trained nurses and returning nurses all the same.
