Hello PedNIG members! 

On behalf of the PedNIG executive we would like to extend an extra special thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your patients and families through your work over the past many months. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has presented new challenges, as paediatric nurses we know the needs of children are more important than ever to maintain child health.

Due to recent news concerning  the COVID-19 being declared as a pandemic by The World Health Organization (WHO), we regret to inform you that the 2020 Hamilton Nursing Skills Workshop has been cancelled.  This decision was made in order to ensure and prioritize the health and safety of our members and the public.

Please note that a separate email outlining instructions on obtaining a refund has been sent out to those who have registered for the Skills Workshop.

The symposium is taking place November 2, 2020 at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning, sponsored by the Hospital for Sick Children. We are currently accepting submissions for concurrent sessions and posters.

The Paediatric Nurses Interest Group (PedNIG) is excited to host this year's Paediatric Nursing Skills Workshop 2020. This opportunity is open to all nurses and nursing students interested in paediatric nursing! Sessions will include topics relevant to paediatric nursing delivered through didactic and hands on skills, designed for novice to advanced learners. The workshop will conclude with a career panel discussion of various paediatric practitioners who will share their experiences in the field, with an opportunity for a Q & A session.

It is our pleasure to offer a variety of bursary opportunities for pediatric nurses and nursing students. PedNIG strives to give back to its members and support the ongoing professional development and life-long learning you are doing through research, education and workshop bursaries. These opportunities are exclusively available to PedNIG members. We look forward to awarding over $8,000 again this year.

As you may know, In recent months there has been a public health crisis of vaping and e-cigarette use by Ontario youth. Vaping among Canadian youth (ages 16-19) has increased a staggering 74% between 2017 and 2018, with a severe case of vaping associated lung disease occurring in a 17 year old male in London, ON earlier this year which has been prominent in the media.

On Nov. 20, National Child Day was celebrated. 

Children's Healthcare Canada released the attached statement in collaboration with worldwide partners. PedNIG stands with them in support of the advocacy and promotion of child health.
