NSO x CSPSC Social Prescribing Webinar

Posted on March 10, 2026, 2:30 p.m.

The NSO invites its student members to join us for an evening on how clinical practitioners can extend their positive influence into the community through a Social Prescribing Webinar on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 7–8:30 p.m ET. Oftentimes, as nursing students we are focused on the clinical practice component of our studies which may leave the person-centred approach to approach to address basic social and non-clinical needs of those we care for. Based on the social determinants of health, it empowers and supports the individual to create their own path towards holistic wellbeing.

This webinar is in collaboration with the Canadian Social Prescribing Student Collective, a national level student-led social movement towards social prescribing. They currently consist of 300+ members across the country with 35+ post-secondary institutions, with students from various levels from diploma all the way to doctorate levels.

Our guest speakers will include:

  1. Margaret Lin RN, MHLP (Co-Lead, National Initiatives)

Margaret (she/her) is a PhD student in nursing at the University of British Columbia researching social prescribing collaboration for older adults, healthcare staff, and community partners. As a registered nurse and regional project leader at Fraser Health, Margaret leads the integration of social prescribing into the regional health system to support healthy aging in the community. She enjoys collaborating with community members, healthcare providers, students, and researchers across BC.

  2. Benji Finestone RN, BScN (Co-Lead, Events)

Benji (he/him) is a recent graduate of the BScN program at the Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto. Prior to this degree, he received his BSc in kinesiology from McGill University. For a long time, Benji has been interested in the “mind-body” connection. When he learned about social prescribing in his community nursing class, he became very excited to find a practical tool which addresses social determinants of health in primary care settings. Since then, he has looked for opportunities to get involved in Canada’s social prescribing movement and is very proud to be the Events Lead for the Canadian Social Prescribing Student Collective.

We'll have exemplars, breakout rooms, and the chance to chat with one another on how we can incorporate social prescribing into our own education and practice to improve the health outcomes for our own communities.
