Dear Students,
The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) is seeking two students to participate as an expert panel member for the new edition/revision of two Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) titled: Assessment and Management of Pressure Injury, Fourth Edition (working title) and Person- and Family- Centred Care, Second edition (working title) (one student per guideline). The purpose of the guidelines is to provide evidence-based recommendations for nurses and other members of the interprofessional team. Broadly, these guidelines will apply to all domains of nursing practice, including clinical, administration, and education.
We invite student members to apply to be a panel member if you meet the following criteria:
- Third or fourth year nursing student (undergraduate)
- Some experience working with patients and their caregivers who have pressure injuries OR providing person- and family- centred care in any healthcare setting
The panel member position is a voluntary position and requires participation for a period of about 15 months. More specifically, panel members commit to:
- Reviewing orientation video recordings and attending a virtual two-hour orientation meeting;
- Attending two half-day BPG planning virtual meetings, along with three to four follow-up virtual meetings (approx. 1-2 hours each meeting) and two half-day virtual recommendation build meetings;
- Participating in the development of the purpose, scope and recommendation questions;
- Reading preparatory materials sent by the RNAO BPG team (i.e., reading of evidence to decision frameworks for each recommendation question with support from RNAO staff to interpret);
- Participating in a consensus development process to finalize recommendations (i.e., anonymous voting process);
- Reviewing and providing feedback including, but not limited to:
- drafts of the BPG throughout the development process;
- performance indicators to support evaluation of the guideline; and
- implementation tools as needed (e.g., health education fact sheet);
- Helping identify and establish connections to stakeholders who will review the draft guideline prior to publication; and
- Promoting awareness of the published guideline (e.g., promote BPG within organization and professional networks).
Expert panel members will be provided with materials and training required to facilitate interpretation of guideline development-related documents and voting.
