Guest Speaker - History & Lived Experiences of Black Nurses in Ontario

Dear member,

Join in honouring Black History Month and learning about the history and experiences of Black nurses in our upcoming guest speaker event. We will hear from Dr. Angela Cooper-Brathwaite, fellow RNAO member and co-chair of RNAO's Black Nurses Task Force, she will share her research and there will be opportunity for active discussion on this topic.

This is a collaborative event between the Black Nurses Leading Change (BNLC) interest group and Durham-Northumberland chapter. The event will be held virtually on Zoom and is open to RNAO and non-RNAO members, all are welcome to attend.

Presentation Objectives:

1. Define different definitions of racism

2. Inform participants about the history of Black nurses in Canada

3. Increase participants awareness of racism in academic and workplace settings

4. Disseminate research findings about Black nurses & nursing students in Ontario

5. Share strategies to address racism in nursing

6. Generate support for Black nurses who are experiencing racism in academia and workplaces
