Dear member,
We hope this email finds you well and want to recognize the tremendous dedication and work you and your colleagues are doing at this extremely difficult time during this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is inspiring to see your care and compassion shining bright and you going above and beyond each day! We also hope you are taking the rest you need, looking after yourselves, and using any supports and resources you find helpful.
Nursing Week will be held from May 10 – 16, 2021, and this year we will once again focus on mental health, well-being, and self-care. With this theme in mind, we are pleased to share that we will be offering an online virtual three-part Mental Health First Aid course. Just as many of us are trained in CPR, first aid, and what to do if some is injured or experiencing an acute medical event, mental health first aid teaches a person how to recognize the signs that someone may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis and how to provide initial help. Mental health first aid is a certified training program from the Mental Health Commission of Canada and is also part of The National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion and can add this course to their resume’/CV.
Mental health first aid is open for anyone to attend (including nursing students), and the course will help you to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems or substance use among colleagues and clients, and you can use your knowledge in the workplace, the community, and general public.
