Dear RNAO member,
On behalf of the Durham Northumberland chapter we wish you a very happy and special Nursing Week! We hope you take some time this week to reflect on and celebrate all that you do to ensure Ontarians receive good quality healthcare services, whether you work directly at the bedside, in management, education, or some other role, you are important and deserve to be recognized this week and always.
We also want to share and encourage you to participate in our events and activities:
General Members Virtual Meeting – May 12, 2020 @ 7:00pm
We will be hosting a virtual meeting via Zoom for all members (including nursing students) on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 @ 7:00pm, which is designated as International Nurses’ Day! We will be hearing from RNAO President Angela Cooper-Brathwaite, flowing through a 30 minute restorative yoga & meditation session (appropriate for all levels & in-home friendly), along with some other fun inspiration and activities! We are also asking you to wear your “nursing gear” including caps/aprons, stethoscopes, scrub tops, and birthday décor to celebrate Florence’s special day, you can even dress up as Florence herself. And make sure to wear your RN, NP, or NS RNAO pins!
We are also looking for members to share their experiences/stories related to the COVID-19 pandemic, what keeps you motivated in your career, and any special moments that have stood out for you. Social Media Giveaways – May 11 – 17, 2020
We will providing 7-days of giveaways on our social media pages (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), make sure you are following us and checking daily. Our posts will be focusing on self-care and we want to hear from you about how you practice self-care and make sure you look after yourself. If you do not have social media, please send us an email at rnao.durhamnorthumberland@gmail.com, tell us what you do for self-care and you will be entered into our giveaways. We will be giving away gift cards to places we all know and love!

Nursing Week Proclamations
We have also received proclamations from several municipalities recognizing and proclaiming “Nursing Week”. The proclamations will be shared on our social media pages, so be sure to check them out!
Flag Raising – May 19, 2020
The Town of Ajax will be recognizing “Nursing Week” with a flag raising event at the Ajax Town Hall, Heritage Square 65 Harwood Avenue South on May 19, 2020. This is our chapter’s first annual flag raising event. Typically there is a flag raising ceremony, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be no formal ceremony, but the flag will be flown from May 19 – 25. So please pass and take a picture or two! This is also an event we wish to continue annually in different municipalities across the chapter going forward.
