Black Nurses Leading Change (BLNC) May 2024 newsletter

Good day members!

We had a such a productive and busy month in May so far and we are happy that our members got enjoy and participate in the events that we offered. However, our fun and excitement does not end there – in June we have other exciting events.

AGM and Summer Mingle and Mix Event

RNAO will be holding their 99th Annual General Meeting (AGM) from Thursday June 20 to Saturday June 22, 2024. This will be an in-person event. Check the RNAO website for more information and to register.

We are excited to host our very own Summer Mingle and Mix event which will take place in Toronto on Saturday June 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to not only meet our Interest group executives but also make connections with other groups, organizations and other Black professionals in the health-care field. To purchase tickets for our event, visit this Eventbrite page:

We will also be holding a breakfast meet and greet earlier that morning.  More details coming soon.

Nursing Week 2024

For nurses week BNLC held two exciting webinars which were full of knowledge, advice and perspectives.

On Tuesday, May 7  our communication ENO Dwight Barrett hosted our panel webinar "Black Men in Nursing" which include panelists Jason Burke, Jordan Acheampong and Akim Edwards. This was a great webinar which presented Black men in nursing and offered a different perspective from that point of view. Thank you to all the participants who attended – and thank you to our panelists.

On Wednesday, May 8 we followed with another great event webinar “Glowing up your Brand; Amplify Visibility, Amplify Your Career” with Dr. Farah Laurent, hosted by our social media ENO Nicole Goodfellow. This was another great event where we focused and discussed on how nurses both new and seasoned can change their path of the career path to what they really enjoy. Thank you to all the participants who attend and to our guest speaker.

On Thursday May 9 our chair, Lori Zozzolotto participated in a panel discussion: Equity Diversity and Inclusion along with John Edwards of the Rainbow Nursing Interest Group and Alicia Gonzalez of the Indigenous Nurses and Allies Interest Group.
