Press Release-Sudbury

"Bring you MPPs to work."  May 21, 2024

Today, Sudbury NDP MPP Jamie West and Nickel Belt NDP MPP France Gélinas visited Sudbury’s Youth Wellness Hub, housed at the Sudbury YMCA.  The visit was part of RNAO’s annual Take Your MPP To Work event which showcases the different roles nurses play in our health care system.

At the Hub, which has been in operation for less than a year, the team sees up to 60 youth each day to provide primary care, peer support, sexual health, mental health, addictions care, employment, and housing services, in collaboration with other partners.  The Sudbury District Nurse Practitioner Clinics, for example, provide NP services two days per week to address the needs of youth, including those who do not have access to an Ontario health card.  Already, the team is seeing success from this model, but is beginning to outgrow its space and resources.  There is sufficient demand to justify a full time Nurse Practitioner, as well as, other interprofessional team members.  On this visit, MPPs Jamie West and France Gélinas learned about the roles and responsibilities of NPs in a community and primary care setting.
