Good day members,
We hope you all are well. As we continue in the fall season, BNLC has been been busy with past events and future events.
BNLC Virtual AGM:
On Sunday, Sept. 15, BNLC hosted their own virtual AGM meeting. We opened our meeting to our new and existing members showcasing what our group is about and what future events we were holding. The event was a success at which we answered questions to our members about our group.
We are still looking for a Finance ENO so if you are interested please contact us.
RNAO Fall Tour 2024:
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, BNLC hosted the 10th-annual #FallTour virtually with RNAO President NP Lhamo Dolkar. This was a great event where Lhamo spoke about the benefits of RN prescribing, the role of NPs, the drug toxicity crisis and the climate emergency. She also discussed the roles that RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organizations® are playing in communities across Ontario. Hosted by Communications ENO Dwight Barrett and Board Liaison and past President Dania Versailles, the event was successful. We had a good turnout with a lot of questions from members.
The Return of Black Men in Nursing – Q&A Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. ET:
Back by popular demand, BNLC will be hosting a Black Men in Nursing Q&A session hosted by Communications ENO Dwight Barrett. Our three presenters – Jason Burke, Jordan Acheampong and Akim Edwards – return to answer questions about being Black men in nursing in Ontario. Our BNLC President getting an award:
Our very own Chair and President of BNLC, Lori Zozzolotto, was recently awarded the Alumni of Distinction Award from Mohawk College for Health Sciences. We congratulate Lori for this outstanding achievement!
Strut Your Stuff Feature for this month:
This month we have not one... not two... but three features for Strut Your Stuff!
First, we have Bianca Agyakwa-Bempong who recently completed the rigorous one-year post-graduate Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program at Toronto Metropolitan University and successfully passed their nurse practitioner exam!
Second, we have Jameelah Bonnick who also recently completed their one-year post-graduate Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program at Toronto Metropolitan University and successfully passed their nurse practitioner exam!
Third, we have Brittany Brinson, a PICU nurse who is the co-founder of Moved by Their Compassion. This non-profit organization is focused on “developing a resilient health-care community where mental health is a top priority, empowering and supporting health-care workers and first responders in their journey towards holistic well-being.” Brittany remarkably has taken her personal experience with her critically-ill son to help form this wonderful non-profit in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Congratulations to all three of these successful wonderful ladies!!!!
Have you reached a major or minor goal, or are you working toward accomplishing one? Has there been a recent event in your career or education that you are proud of? This is where you can strut your stuff! BNLC will now feature one to two members each newsletter who have made their own accomplishments and goals. We believe that no matter how big or small your accomplishment was, it needs to be recognized – we as community need should recognize and celebrate our own achievements.
If you would like to be featured in our “Strut Your Stuff” please email us at blacknursesleadingchange@gmail.com with a brief note (one to two sentences) showcasing your achievement. We will feature this in our newsletter and on our social media platforms. Feel free to include a picture of yourself if desired.
