Newsletter Spring /Summer 2026 RetNIG

Posted on April 15, 2026, 7:57 p.m.

Welcome, RetNIG Members!

We want to begin with an apology for the missing winter newsletter. Our Communications ENO and chair experienced a five‑week hospital stay from January to February and has been managing ongoing health issues since. We’re happy to share that she’s now well enough to bring you our spring/summer newsletter.

Despite her absence, we successfully hosted two wonderful events:

  • A session on pelvic health
  • A Fireside Chat with nursing author Tilda Shalof, featuring her latest book

In this issue

  1. Greetings from our Chair
  2. Nursing Week Updates and results from our 2025 AGM – which passed successfully. We can now legally use the title Retired RN (e.g., Una Ferguson, RN (Ret.) as long as we continue paying the $84 non‑practicing fee to the CNO.
  3. RetNIG Reads: The Women by Kristin Hannah – a powerful novel about nursing during the Vietnam War
  4. RetNIG Cooks: A delicious Honey BBQ Chicken Bowl recipe
  5. Watch for our 2026 resolution on the importance of using the Retired RN in health care today! We were used during the Pandemic and are just as valuable now! Hope to see you at the AGM May 28 and 29.

We need you! – Call for executive members

We are currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:

  • Chair
  • Treasurer
  • Communications ENO

No experience is necessary — we will mentor you and support you until you feel confident. We’re a fun, welcoming group and would love to see some new faces join us.

Looking ahead

The Executive will be meeting in May to brainstorm next year’s events.
If you have topics you’d like us to feature, please email us at: [email protected]

Wishing You a Wonderful Summer

We hope you enjoy a safe, healthy summer with plenty of good weather — and that these spring rains wrap up soon. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Bring a friend to our next event!
If every member brought just one person, we could double our membership in a single year.
