Aging Relational Care Covid19 (ARC) Study – Invitation to Participate

Posted on Oct. 28, 2020, 5:54 p.m.

Hello all,

The Aging_Relational_Care_Covid19 (ARC) Research Team (Ryerson University Professors Sepali Guruge, Lori Schindel Martin, Souraya Sidani, Suzanne Fredericks, Elizabeth McCay, Joyal Miranda, Elaine Santa Mina, and Don Rose, and Linda Liu at University Health Network) is conducting a study to explore healthcare providers’ experiences of caring for older people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study aims to understand, from the point of view of healthcare providers, the successes and challenges they experienced in the relational care of older people in a range of care settings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ARC team is also interested in learning about the resources and the strategies healthcare providers are using/ have used/needed to engage in mental health self-care during the pandemic.

Healthcare providers are eligible: If they are a registered nurse, registered practical nurse, personal support worker, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreational therapist, social worker, spiritual care practitioner, dietitian, physician, pharmacist, advanced practice nurse, nurse educator, manager or administrator working with older persons in Ontario during the pandemic.

Participation in the study involves responding, online, to questions about:

1. Two (one positive, one negative) significant events during which you provided care for an older person during COVID-19;

2. Resources you used to provide care to the older person;

3. Resources you used to engage in mental health self-care; and

4. Additional resources that would have been helpful to you during the pandemic.

Understanding your perspective will help share how relational care for older people in a range of care settings can be improved. Your responses will also help identify what mental health self-care resources need to be put in place in a range of practice settings to support healthcare providers.

The survey will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The online survey can be found at https://survey.ryerson.ca/s?s=9771
