Dear RNAO Algoma members,
Please consider joining your local mass immunization effort to provide third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to all eligible residents.
Yesterday, the provincial government announced the rapid acceleration of its booster dose rollout. They've expanded eligibility to all individuals aged 18 or over, and shortened the interval to three months (84 days) following the second dose of the vaccine.
Algoma Public Health and local health partners have been working intensely to offer more vaccine appointments district-wide in December, before and during the holidays. This includes restarting mass immunization clinics and large community clinics to administer third doses to eligible residents at rapid speed.
APH is in urgent need of additional health human resources (HHR), and is calling on local NPs and RNs to support vaccine administration.
APH’s ability to administer the vaccines depends completely on the ongoing arrival of supply and availability of HHR.
Clinic dates and shifts at the Sault Ste. Marie GFL Clinic are currently as follows:
- Dec. 19, 20 , 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 30 - shifts from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (some shifts start at 7:30 a.m.)
- Dec. 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 - shifts from 3:30-9:30 pm
APH is especially in need of regulated health professionals to draw up and administer vaccines.
Please email scheduler@algomapublichealth.com with the dates and shifts you are able to work. You will be notified of your role and any required training as soon as possible.
I know this “call for help” is a difficult ask during the festive season, when our local nurses have worked tirelessly during COVID-19 and need some down time. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
Nurses make a difference every single day. Let’s come together to strengthen our community’s protection against COVID-19 this holiday season. Our most vulnerable depend on it.
With sincere thanks and wishes for a healthy holiday season,
Lil Bressan, RNAO Algoma Chapter president
