THE SOCIAL EPIDEMIOLOGY OF GUN VIOLENCE AND THE ROLE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
Dr. Annette Bailey’s research explores gun violence prevention and survivorship. Dr. Bailey’s years of experience as a public health nurse is central in informing her perspectives on gun violence as a public health issue, and her work in establishing the relevance and effectiveness of public health in gun violence solutions. Through her work, she aims to understand the complex and intersecting socio-political systems inherent in gun violence proliferation and survivorship.
Dr. Annette Bailey is an Associate Professor with the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Ryerson University. She is also currently serving in the role of Associate Director for the Ryerson Collaborative Nursing Program. Dr. Bailey holds a PhD in Public Health Science.
The Verna Huffman Splane Annual Lecture
The Verna Huffman Splane Lecture is made possible through a generous gift from Dr. Richard Splane and the Splane family. Dr. Verna Huffman Splane attended the School of Nursing at the University of Toronto, obtaining a Diploma in Public Health Nursing in 1939. She went on to become Canada's first Chief Nursing Officer and served in that role until 1972. Throughout her career as advocate for the health of the public, she concentrated on national and international health planning, policy development and the extended role of the nurse.
