Dear ONIG Members,

We hope that you are doing well and are having a productive spring. For those of you who could make it to SickKids (or join via OTN/webcast) in April for our AGM/Education Day, it was wonderful to see you. At our AGM/Education Day we discussed a number of topics that we promised to circle back to members about (namely elections, education days etc.). Please see below these updates as well as a summary of some of the activities from the AGM/Education Day for those who were not able to attend.

ONIG AGM Summary:

  • This year’s ONIG AGM was held at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) on April 26th
  • The day began with a welcome from Gillian Strudwick and the AGM reports were provided by members of the ONIG executive (the slide deck can be sent to you upon request if of interest)
  • Helen Edwards, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer at SickKids, was awarded the ONIG Achievement Award. Congratulations Helen!
  • Carley Oullette, McMaster University, was awarded the ONIG RNFOO Award. Congratulations Carley!
  • “Lessons Learned from Implementing a HIS” (SickKids) was presented by Helen Edwards. Thanks Helen for this wonderful presentation.
  • Mary Lou Ackerman (SE Health) presented “Canadian EntrepreNurse Movement – From Best Practice to Next Practice”. Here is a video describing the movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od5sko6N8-0 Thanks Mary Lou for inspiring us to be innovative in our thinking and actions as nurses.|
  • The last presentation of the day was presented by Sarah Kipping (Ontario Shores) and Andrea Lucas (Waypoint) on “Transforming Key Mental Health Practices Through Partnerships and Standardization” . Thanks to Sarah and Andrea for this very thoughtful and practical presentation.

Brainstorming Session:
A brief brainstorming session was held during the ONIG AGM and many members suggested there is a need for a panel/resource on various educational opportunities for current ONIG  members. We plan to send a survey to members to further gather suggestions and ideas for the coming year. Stay tuned!

Elections to be a part of the ONIG Leadership/Executive Team:
Elections are currently taking place to join the ONIG executive team. Join us!

The following positions are available:

  • Chair/President-Elect
  • Finance Executive Officer
  • Membership Executive Officer
  • Student Liaison Officer

If you know any individuals who you believe should be nominated (or you would like to self-nominate) for any of the above positions please go to https://myrnao.ca/ONIG_cfn_2019

* Candidates must be members in good standing of Ontario Nursing Informatics Group and the RNAO, and agree to serve for a two year period if elected. The call for nominations will close on June 15, 2019.

Upcoming Education Day:
We are currently looking for a venue for the Fall Education Day; venue offers or suggestions are welcome. We will work closely with you so this isn’t a much work for you as the host site. We really just need a room with OTN access and we can take it from there.

As we work to continuously improve ONIG member satisfaction we will be sending out a brief survey shortly and will need your feedback! Stay tuned as we will be looking for your responses to shape how we plan for future education days and to better understand what encourages individuals to become an ONIG member.

All the best and looking forward to working with each of you in the coming year.

Your 2019/2020 ONIG Executive
