OCNIG AGM

Hello to all OCNIG Members!

Hope all is well with you and Happy Spring!

The AGM is fast approaching on Saturday April 13 2019 at 0900 at the Toronto Hilton Hotel.

The annual meeting provides members in attendance to be updated about the committee activities, to meet the Executive, ask questions and to network. We want you there! Here are some additional reasons to attend.

Members who have attended in the past have said that experiencing the meeting is not only worthwhile but ensures that nurses voices are heard. OCNIG will reimburse members who register for the AGM and are in attendance at the meeting. The cost is $30 and includes breakfast.

There will be a draw for an OCNIG fleece jacket - a $50 value. Those of us who have jackets all wear them proudly.

The Guest speaker, Erin Boudreau, will speak about the Segregation Coalition and the important work that has been done by collaboration with community partners to progress joint mandates.  Erin Boudreau is the Government Relations, Policy and Community Engagement Manager of the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario and the current chair of the Segregation Coalition. Erin and the Coalition's work demonstrate numerous reasons which will encourage all nurses to identify advocacy opportunities. Join us and learn how important it is to continue to develop your leadership in your practice. One voice speaks volumes, imagine when many community partner voices join together.

Lastly, OCNIG is also offering to sponsor one member for their travel costs plus one night accommodation the night before the meeting.

This sponsorship is being offered to provide the opportunity for a member who may never have had the chance to attend in prior years.

Here is how it works:

We invite members who are RNs or NPs currently working in a Correctional setting and who have not attended in the past are asked to write a brief paragraph about why your name should be selected to attend on April 13 2019. Please include how one night accommodation and travel costs (up to $400) would help you to join us.

Reasons may include barriers which also may have prevented you from attending other professional development opportunities.

Be creative and describe some of the ways that attending OCNIG AGM will assist you in achieving  success in your practice. The Executive will review all applications and sponsor the member with the most compelling story.

Submissions must be emailed to ontariocorrectionalnurses@gmail.com no later than midnight on March 31, 2019. The winner will be notified by email on April 4, 2019. It is important to note that the winner must book their own travel and accommodation and will be reimbursed up to $400 on the day of the meeting. Only one person will be selected - Good luck to all!
