Introducing your Executive for the RNAO Special Interest Group for Campus Nursing

Posted on March 1, 2021, 10:01 a.m.

Hi Everyone

After a long time with no activity in this group we finally have a full executive to see if we can't make some magic happen.

I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce each of you to our dynamic team.  After learning a little bit about each of us please don't hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions or concerns.  I will be sending out another email which will be asking for ideas for a spring/summer meeting. Stay tuned!!

Now Here is our team!

Director of Public Policy and Political Action

Hello everyone, my name is Jacqueline Anderson, and I joined Humber College as the Associate Director of Student Health and Counselling in 2016.  I am proud to be an alumnus of Humber and the University of New Brunswick where I completed a Bachelor or Nursing. I have a specialty certification in mental health nursing with the CNA, a Master of Nursing from the University of Toronto, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Education in Adult Education at Yorkville University. Prior to joining Humber in 2016, I worked as a Manager of acute mental health services at Trillium Health Partners, an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.  In my current role, I oversee health and counselling services for students registered to the college.

I am so proud of the teams I support, in their ability to provide high quality, responsive, comprehensive, and compassionate care to assist students experiencing challenges related to their physical health and mental health.  I’m looking forward to networking with colleagues, collaborating with campus partners, to share ideas, and to contribute to best practices for campus health centres.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my teenage son, and our family dog, and I love all things Netflix!

Associate Director,

Student Health and Counselling

Director of Research

My name is Christine Philbrick and I have been working at Niagara College in Health, Wellness, and Accessibility Services for over 25 years!

Working with the student demographic is both a unique and a rewarding opportunity.  Having the ability to communicate with other Nurses who work with post-secondary students across the province through OCHNA is so valuable for professional support and collaboration. I am pleased in my OCHNA role to periodically provide relevant research findings to our group to support best practice initiatives within our membership.

"Hi, my name is Melanie Schutte and I am the Manager of Health Services at Lakehead University's Student Health and Wellness. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2013 and began my nursing career in the Emergency Department at our local hospital. A position became available at Lakehead University and I was hired as a Senior Registered Nurse in August 2015 and moved into management in 2019. It is nice to come full circle having studied Nursing at Lakehead University to now helping students maintain their health while achieving their academic needs. Being from Newfoundland, I love being around the water and relaxing in nature."
