Posted on March 4, 2026, 10:45 p.m.

Dear OHNIG Member

OMSOC, the National Specialty Society for Occupational Medicine in Canada has written a position statement on the Role of Health professionals in reviewing “Work from Home” Medical Accommodation requests.    We felt this would be of interest to those of you working in Occupational Health Nursing/ Disability management and accommodations.

OMSOC are recommending that medical clinicians should avoid recommending specific arrangements such as a work from home but should focus only on communicating restrictions that are medically supported. It is the employer’s responsibility to determine the appropriate accommodation solutions for the restrictions identified by the medical practitioner that should also align with operational requirements of the organization.
