Greetings CHNIG members,
On Remembrance Day, let’s honour and remember the nurses, who were the first women in the Canadian Military and left their friends, families, and communities to fight for a better life for all.
Canadian military nurses began to serve in the Crimean War and then in the American Civil War. Military nurses played a significant role in providing medical treatment to soldiers and relieving their suffering. Nurses had gruelling workloads and faced the threat of bombs and infectious diseases. According to Veteran Affairs Canada, 4000 nurses served in the Second World War and more Canadian nurses volunteered than the Arm Forces had positions for. The Forces had to start a waiting list which, at one time, had the names of 8,000 nurses on it. There are nurses who continue to actively serve in the Canadian Armed Forces.

CHNIG recognizes all nurses who did and continue to serve Canada with bravery and dedication. We thank all military men and women for their service.
On November 11 at 11 a.m., please stand in silence for one minute in memory of all who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and for those that continue in service to our country.
Sincerely,
CHNIG Board
